Phenylephrine injection is commonly used as treatment for priapism, a prolonged and painful erection that persists without sexual stimulation. When administered, phenylephrine constricts blood vessels within the penis. This reduces blood flow and promotes the return of normal blood circulation within the penis. Phenylephrine may resolve priapism while minimizing the risk of tissue damage.

Injection site reaction: mild, temporary pain, itching, or redness at the injection site. Phenylephrine should be stored at room temperatures of 68F to 77F (or 20C to 25C). Store this medication away from light. Keep medications out of reach of children and pets. Discard this medication after 28 days of first use or according to the beyond-use date, whichever date comes first. When disposing of unused medication or expired vials, do not flush or pour down the drain. Follow local guidelines on medication disposal. If the Phenylephrine vial is empty, discard with regular glass waste. For broken vials and needles, discard into a puncture-proof, red FDA-cleared sharps container to prevent needle-stick injuries.
