Liothyronine/Levothyroxine SR capsules are a combination of thyroid hormones T3 and T4. Liothyronine is the active form of thyroid hormone, while Levothyroxine is converted in the body to the active form. Levothyroxine acts as the body's natural storage or reservoir of thyroid hormone. By combining these two forms, Levothyroxine/Liothyronine SR capsules provide comprehensive thyroid hormone replacement that can be formulated in a specific ratio for the body's unique needs. These hormones influence gene transcription and protein synthesis. Liothyronine/Levothyroxine help regulate oxygen consumption, energy production, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, protein synthesis, growth, and development. The sustained-release (SR) formulation is designed to gradually release liothyronine/levothyroxine over an extended period, helping to maintain more consistent thyroid hormone levels and physiologic activity throughout the dosing interval.
